20. If necessary, heat race (24), and remove it from shaft (23).21. Remove turbine (22) from shaft (23). 22. Use tool (B) to remove ring (28) from the shaft.23. Remove six bolts (25), two plates (27) and stator (26). 24. Remove six bolts (30), two plates (29) and impeller (19). 25. Remove gear assembly (31) from carrier (32). 26. Remove bearing (33) from gear assembly (31). 27. Remove ring (34) that holds shaft (23) and the bearing in place in carrier (32). 28. Use a press, and remove shaft (23) and the bearing from carrier (32). 29. If necessary, remove pins (35) and sleeve (36) from carrier (32). 30. Remove bearing (37) and ring (38) from shaft (23).Assemble Torque Converter
1. Install ring (3) and bearing (2) on shaft (1). 2. If sleeve (5) was removed from the carrier, align the tab on the sleeve with the notch in the carrier, and install the sleeve in carrier (6).3. If pins (4) were removed, install the pins in carrier (6). 4. Use a press and tool (A), and install the shaft and bearing (2) in carrier (6). 5. Install ring (7) in carrier (6) to hold bearing (2) in place. 6. Install bearing (9) in gear assembly (8). Install the bearing until dimension (X) is 1.5 0.5 mm (.06 .02 in). The inside diameter of the bearing must be 89.027 0.038 mm (3.5050 .0015 in) after installation. 7. Put gear assembly (8) in position on carrier (6). 8. Check the clearance between the stator and turbine as follows:a. Put turbine (10) on a smooth, flat surface. Install four 1B4330 Nuts (11) evenly spaced in the turbine as shown. b. Put stator (12) in position in turbine (10) as shown.c. Put tooling (B) against the stator as shown. Move the stator toward tooling (B) until it makes contact with the inside diameter in the turbine. Adjust the dial indicator until it is on zero. Slide stator (12) 180° away from tooling (B) until it makes contact with the other side of the turbine. Make a record of the dimension measured.d. Make this check at several locations around the turbine. Make a record of each dimension measured. The largest dimension measured is used for the clearance between the two parts. The total clearance measured across the diameter must be 0.30 to 0.45 mm (.012 to .018 in) with a maximum permissible clearance of 0.76 mm (.030 in). The radial (running) clearance is half of the dimensions measured. 9. Check the clearance between the stator and impeller as follows:a. Put impeller (13) on a smooth, flat surface. Install two 12.7 mm (.50 in) diameter rods (14) 45.7 cm (18 in) long across the impeller as shown. b. Put stator (12) in position on rods (14).c. Put tooling (B) in the position shown. Slide the stator toward tooling (B) until it makes contact with the inside diameter of impeller (13) and tooling (B). Adjust the dial indicator until it is
