The air lines to and from the air dryer must be at atmospheric pressure. If the air lines are not at atmospheric pressure, personal injury could result. Release the air pressure from the air system completely before performing maintenance.

(1) Drain valve
Open drain valve (1) for the air tank.
Check for moisture in the air reservoir. Close drain valve (1) for the air tank. Note: You may find small amounts of moisture in the system due to internal condensation. This is normal. You may also find moisture in the system if you add an air dryer to a machine that has been operating without an air dryer. Several weeks may be required in order to completely remove the moisture from the system.

(2) Air dryers
If there is excessive moisture in the air tank, replace the desiccant cartridges or rebuild the desiccant cartridges. Consult your Caterpillar dealer for information about replacing the desiccant cartridges and for instructions for rebuilding the desiccant cartridges. Note: There are two air dryers (2) on this machine. Two air dryers (2) are located inside the frame above the left front wheel.
