Use the following procedure to install new 359-5145 Alternator Guard (1) and 364-8305 Foam Filter (2) in the charging alternator group.
Open the battery disconnect switch.

Remove the three bolts (A) on the rear of the charging alternator (B). Save the parts for reuse.
Remove the former 292-4906 Alternator Guard As and discard the part. Do not remove the alternator cover located under the alternator guard assembly.Retain and reuse all the hardware.

Remove the existing 306-8040 Bracket As (C). Modify the bracket assembly (C) by shortening the two longest bosses (D) to match the length of shortest boss (E) .

Install new foam filter (2) into new alternator guard (1). Rotate foam filter (2) such that mounting holes in alternator guard (1) are in center of the clearance holes of filter (2) .

Align new alternator guard (1) and filter media assembly to allow the "B+" terminal to pass through the cutout.

Align the mounting holes of the modified bracket assembly (C) as with the mounting holes on the charging alternator (B). Install the three bolts (A) that are saved in Step 2. Tighten the bolts (A) to 2.5 0.5 N m (22.1 4.4 lb in).Maintenance
If the machine is equipped with the alternator guard and filter, perform the following procedure:
When the primary engine air filter element is cleaned, check and clean the alternator filter. Visibly inspect the cover and the filter to determine if excessive debris buildup has occurred.
Remove the three fasteners holding the cover to the alternator. Remove the filter and clean or replace as needed.
Clean debris buildup from the cover. Insert the filter and install the cover and the filter with the original fasteners. Torque the bolts to 2.5 0.5 N m (22.1 4.4 lb in). Refer to the Operation and Maintenance Manual for the maintenance interval schedule.
