Caterpillar recommends recording the body serial as part of the commissioning procedure for a new machine delivery. Recording the body serial number will provide traceability and will improve dealer support of the body.Procedure

Enter SIMS and select the "product information" tab.

In the menu on the left-hand side of the screen select "Product Configuration".

Enter truck serial number.

Select "Expand All" to verify that there is not a body already attached to the truck serial number.

Select the "Modify" that is associated with the truck serial number.

Select "Add Related Serial Number".

Enter the body Serial Number, Install Date, and Reference Number in the related fields.Note: The reference number is the body part number.Note: The information can be found on the body identification plate as shown in Illustration 8. The plate is located on the outside of the front wall on the left-hand side of the body.

Select "Add Related Serial Number".

If a popup window appears stating that "Serial Number all ready exists. Would you like to install it onto this serial number?", select "OK".

If the serial number has been added to the Product Configuration a message will appear, "The serial number was successfully moved".
Select "Cancel" to return to the screen in which the truck serial number product configuration can be expanded, as shown in Illustration 4.
Select "Expand All".
