Information:
Use this procedure to troubleshoot the circuit for the engine oil renewal solenoid or use this procedure if any one of the diagnostic codes in Table 1 is active or easily repeated.
Table 1
Diagnostic Codes Table
Description Conditions which Generate this Code System Response
MID 0036 - CID 0569 - FMI 05 Oil Renewal Solenoid open circuit The engine's Electronic Control Module (ECM) detects an open circuit or a short circuit to ground at the output to the oil renewal solenoid.
The engine's ECM has been powered for two seconds. The code is logged.
MID 0036 - CID 0569 - FMI 06 Oil Renewal Solenoid short to ground The engine's ECM detects a short circuit to the +Battery at the output to the oil renewal solenoid.
The engine's ECM has been powered for two seconds. Use this procedure to troubleshoot any suspect problems with the system for the engine oil renewal solenoid. This procedure covers the following diagnostic codes:
2271-05 Engine Oil Renewal System Actuation Solenoid current low
2271-06 Engine Oil Renewal System Actuation Solenoid current highThe ECM adds a controlled amount of engine oil to the fuel by energizing the engine oil renewal solenoid. The engine oil is added to the fuel and burned during combustion. The typical oil change interval may be extended. The ECM energizes the engine oil renewal solenoid which injects the engine oil into the return line for the fuel. For further information, refer to Service Manual, RENR2223, "Oil Renewal System".

(P2-21) Digital return Test Step 1. Inspect Electrical Connectors and Wiring
Turn the keyswitch to the OFF position.
Thoroughly inspect the ECM connector J2/P2. Inspect all other connectors that are related to the circuit. Refer to Troubleshooting, "Inspecting Electrical Connectors" for details.
Perform a 45 N (10 lb) pull test on each of the wires in the ECM connector that are associated with the circuit.
Check the ECM connector (allen head screw) for the proper torque. Refer to Troubleshooting, "Inspecting Electrical Connectors" for details.
Check the harness and the wiring for abrasion and for pinch points. Expected Result:All connectors, pins, and sockets are completely coupled and/or inserted. The harness and wiring are free of corrosion, of abrasion, and of pinch points. Results:
OK - The connectors and wiring are OK. Proceed to Test Step 2.
Not OK - There is a problem in the connectors and/or wiring.Repair: Repair the connectors or wiring and/or replace the connectors or wiring. Ensure that all of the seals are properly in place and ensure that the connectors are completely coupled.Verify that the repair eliminates the problem.STOPTest Step 2. Check for an Internal Short or for an Open in the Engine Oil Renewal Solenoid's Coil
Disconnect the connector of the engine oil renewal solenoid.
Measure the resistance of the coil by measuring the resistance between terminal 1 and terminal 2 of the connector. Expected Result:The resistance is between 32 and 53 Ohms. Results:
OK - The resistance is between 32 and
