From the menu select: Information - “Data Transport”. The download will begin. When the download is complete, a box will appear that states: “The data has been successfully loaded from the ECM”.

At the bottom of the screen, select “Save To File”.

A window will appear that lists all of the flight recorder data pack xml files that were downloaded. In the “File Name” window, the default file format will be: OffboardData_xxxxxxxxxxxx.xml. The “xxxxxxxxxxxx” represents the time stamp of when the file was downloaded. Add a requested name to the listed file or add a name that identifies where the file is downloaded from. Example: MC1_OffboardData_xxxxxxxxxxxx.xml (“MC1”) was added to the original file format to note that this data pack is from the Motor 1 ECM.
Once the file name is selected, select “Save”. A status bar will display if there is data to save. If no data is available to save, the status bar will momentarily flash. Note: Once the files have been downloaded, the data will be erased from the selected ECM. The first recorded “event” will be part one of the saved file. The last recorded event prior to this download will be part two of the file. If more than 50 hours has passed since a data pack download, part one may be data from a more recent fault. This data will be more important to the end user rather than to the technician.
Once the file has been saved, a message box will appear indicating a successful save. Select “OK.” The default file location for the saved file is: C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Caterpillar\Electronic Technician\Downloads\Offboard files. To view your saved file: File_select “Export”. Double click to select “Downloads”. Double click to select “Offboard Files”. Select the file name that was saved on your file.Work with the contact that is requesting the file to determine how the file will be transferred to the contact.Normally, the file will be “zipped” and then the file will be transferred using the “Secure Internet File Transfer” (SIFT) program. To SIFT a zipped file:
Log on to https://siftcws.cat.com/index.php.
Once in the program: Select “Send Files”. Select “Browse”.
Find the zip file that will be transferred. Double click on the file. Comments can be added in the “Comments to Recipients” box.
In the “Recipients Look Up” box, type the recipients last name. Select “Search”.
Place a check next to the recipients name.
Select the “X” on the top right of the “User Look Up” box.
On the lower left side of the screen, select “Send”. The file will be sent to the selected recipient.
