Installation of Ether Cylinders
1. Turn the disconnect switch to the ON position and put the start switch key in the OFF position. Make sure the two lamps on the console and the two yellow LEDs on the ECU are flashing. If they are flashing, it indicates that the control is functioning and recognizes that no ether cylinders are installed.2. Inspect the two digit, seven segment LED display on the ECU. It must read "00". This in an indication that there are no faults. If the display does not read "00", refer to the Service Manual, SENR4705, for a troubleshooting procedure of the system. 3. Remove protective caps (71) and (72) from 9X7137 Ether Solenoid Valves (73) and (74) (left side ether assembly mounting plate on 789 Truck when viewed from the rear of the engine). Install a new 9X7138 Filter Assembly in each solenoid valve inlet if one is not already in place.4. Install a 9X0147 Collar on the neck of each new 7X1062 Ether Cylinder.5. Remove the protective plug from the end of the new FULL ether cylinder, then install the new ether cylinder for ether solenoid valve No. 1. (When looking toward the front of the machine, ether solenoid valve No. 1 is on the left.)Make sure that the dash mounted ETHER OUT warning lamp No. 1 and the ETHER OUT warning LED on the ECU are OFF. Repeat this procedure for installation of a new FULL ether cylinder on ether solenoid valve No. 2. For a 789 Truck, repeat Steps 3, 4, and 5 for ether solenoids No. 3 and No. 4 on the right side ether assembly mounting plate.* Lamp 1 goes out when cylinders 1 and 3 are installed.* Lamp 2 goes out when cylinders 2 and 4 are installed. If lamp does not go out when ether bottle is installed, loosen the bolts on the reset switch bracket and adjust the reset switch and bracket upward.6. Fasten a 7X0790 Starting Aid Tag to No. 1 Ether Valve Assembly.Special Procedures for Installation or Replacement of an Ether Cylinder
The following information should be given special attention during installation of an ether cylinder on the solenoid valve.Replacement of a Cylinder that is not Completely Empty
*Always install a new FULL ether cylinder as a replacement, if an ether cylinder has been removed for any reason. Never install a partially filled ether cylinder.Installation of a partially filled ether cylinder will result in incorrect operation of the system.Cross Threading
*Be sure to correctly align the threads
