Illustration 1 g00789282A battery is contained in the main module. The battery allows the main module memory to hold data when power is removed from the main module (OPEN disconnect switch). The battery also supplies power for the time and the date. All onboard stored data is retained in volatile memory. This type of memory will lose data if power is removed. The batteries for the machine supply power for the main module when the battery disconnect switch is on. The backup battery retains stored data when the disconnect switch is off. The backup battery also powers the date and time functions when the key start switch is in the OFF position. The battery should be replaced after five years. Backup battery failure will trigger a warning and a service code. During battery failure, if the key start switch is put in the OFF position, loss of the stored data is possible. Proceed directly to STEP 3 if the warning B/U BATT LO is shown.
Stop the machine and shut down the engine. The disconnect switch must remain ON.
Turn the engine start switch into the ON position.
Connect the off-board service tool. Download all stored information. All information may be lost if these steps are not followed.
Remove the cover on the top of the main module. Note: This opening exposes the inside of the main module to dirt and water. Be sure to keep this area clean.
This battery has four contacts on the bottom side. Pry the battery out with a seal ring pick.
Install the new battery.
Check the O-ring seal. Be sure that the seal is properly installed. Install the cover.
Use the Off-board service tool in order to set the time and the date, if necessary.
