Information:

Illustration 1 g06245917The selective catalytic reduction (SCR) system is a system used to reduce NOx emissions from the engine. Diesel exhaust fluid (DEF) is pumped from the DEF tank and is sprayed into the exhaust stream. The DEF reacts with the SCR catalyst to reduce NOx and leaves a nitrogen and water vapor.
Stopping the engine immediately after the engine has been working under load can result in overheating of SCR components.Refer to the Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Engine Stopping" procedure to allow the engine to cool and to prevent excessive temperatures in the turbocharger housing and the DEF injector.
Allow at least 2 minutes after shutting down the engine before you turn the battery disconnect switch to OFF. Disconnecting the battery power too soon will prevent purging of the DEF lines after the shutdown.
The unit has a "wait to disconnect" lamp mounted next to the battery disconnect switch as an added feature to prevent DEF purge cycle interruption.Enabling the Override
The Inducement Emergency Override feature will be enabled at the factory if allowed. If it is desired to enable the feature after delivery of engine, contact your Cat dealer to see if it is allowed for the engine. The dealer should contact Caterpillar if there is any question whether the override is allowed or not for a particular engine. If allowed, the dealer can enable the override using Cat ET.
Go to "Configuration Parameters".
Select "Aftertreatment Configuration".
Select "Operator Inducement Emergency Override Enable Status" to activate the override.
Acknowledge the warning by hitting "OK".Emergency Inducement Override
This feature is not active as shipped from the factory, but can be deactivated by your Cat dealer. More detailed information on activating, deactivating, or resetting override, may be available, contact your Cat dealer. Before you attempt the procedures documented in this Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Emergency Inducement Override", make sure that you have read and understand the information in this document. The United States Environmental Protection Agency ( US EPA) requires limiting of the engine speed and/or power in certain conditions. This limiting helps ensure proper functioning of the engine emission control system. The EPA allows the temporary disabling of these limits during a qualified emergency situation. The temporary disabling of emissions control is referred to as Inducement Emergency Override and must be reported to the US EPA. Per the US EPA the following conditions qualify for overriding the imitation of power and/or speed.
A significant direct or indirect risk to human life.Below are examples of direct versus indirect risks.Direct - An emission controls condition that inhibits performance of an engine being used to rescue a person from life-threatening situation.Indirect - An emission controls condition that inhibits performance of an engine being used to provide electrical power to a data center that routes 911 emergency response communications. The emissions-related derate can be disabled for up to 120 hours of engine operation. The temporary disabling of emissions-related derate is referred to as Emergency Inducement Override and must be reported to the US EPA. The override can only be reset by the engine manufacturer, Caterpillar®.
