The cab rocker switch assembly may fail on the machines listed above. The failure of 284-3622 Rocker Switch located in the cab causes the automatic retarder control functionality to become inoperative.Solution
Caterpillar is aware of this problem, and is recommending the following interim corrective actions.As an interim action, use the following rework procedure to enable the automatic retarder control functionality.Note: After this rework procedure is performed, the automatic retarder control functionality cannot be disabled via the switch.Rework Procedure

Locate the brake electronic control module (ECM) in the front e-bay of the cab.
Locate the 70-pin connector labeled "N-C5" J1. Remove the connector from the ECM.
Remove the following circuits from the following pins:
J764 - BR from pin 32.
K986 - PK from pin 33.
Insert 199-9785 Wire As onto pin 32 of the ECM connector.
Install 155-2270 Connecting Plug Kit onto the 199-9785 Wire As.
Using 102-8802 Receptacle Kit, insert the following circuits:
J764 - BR into pin 1.
K986 - PK into pin 2.
Connect the 70-pin connector to the ECM.
The automatic retarder control functionality is now permanently enabled regardless of the position of 284-3622 Rocker Switch in the cab.
