Install cover (4) on stud (3). Lower the temperature of bearing (5). Use Tooling (H) to install bearing (5).
Install plug (7). Insert retaining ring (6) into the tie rod by hand. Use a brass drift to position the retaining ring.

Apply Tooling (E) onto the threads and the taper of ball stud (3) .Apply Tooling (E) onto the threads of socket assembly (1) and the entire length of threads on rod (8). Install socket assembly (1) into rod (8) then unscrew to Dimension (A).
Install clamp (9) onto rod (8).Note: Use Dimension (C) to position clamps (9) onto rod (8). Clamp assembly openings must be aligned with slots in rod (8).
Install bolts (10), washers (11), and nuts (12). Tighten bolts (10) and nuts (12) to a torque of 840 20 N m (620 15 lb ft).
Repeat Step 1 through Step 5 for remaining socket assemblies.Installation Procedure
Apply Tooling (E) onto the threads and the taper of ball stud (4). Repeat this step for the opposite end.

Use Tooling (C) and a suitable lifting device to install steering link (8). Refer Table 5 for the weight of steering link (8).

Ensure that the mating surfaces and spot faces are clean and free of paint. Apply Tooling (E) on the washer faces under nut assembly (5) and jack bolt (6) threads.
Ensure that all jack bolts (6) are flush or recessed with the bottom face of nut assembly (5).
Spin on nut assembly (5) by hand until nut assembly (5) seats against the washer or bottoms out.
Back off nut assembly (5) by a half turn but no more than 3/4 a turn to provide a gap between nut assembly (5) and the washer.

Typical Example
Use Tooling (F) and Tooling (G) to tighten jack bolts (6).
Tighten jack bolts (6) in a 90 degree pattern to a torque of 60 6 N m (44 4 lb ft).
Again, tighten jack bolts (6) in a 90 degree pattern to a torque of 118 N.m (87 lb ft).
Check and confirm the torque values after 10 to 15 hours of operation and reapply the torque in Step 9, if necessary.

Tighten two setscrews (7) to a torque of 20 N.m (177 lb in).

Install the cap over nut assembly (5) and secure with the clamp as shown in the Illustration above.
Repeat Step 3 through 12 for the opposite end of the steering link.
