Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Cat® products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
At operating temperature, the engine coolant is hot and under pressure.Steam can cause personal injury.Check the coolant level only after the engine has been stopped and the fill cap is cool enough to touch with your bare hand.Remove the fill cap slowly to relieve pressure.Cooling system conditioner contains alkali. Avoid contact with the skin and eyes to prevent personal injury.
Drain the coolant. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Cooling System Coolant (ELC) - Change" for the correct draining and filling procedures.

Open door (1).

Remove bolts (2) and the washers. Move oil filter (3) and the bracket out of the way.

Remove elbow (5).
Remove tube assembly (4) from water temperature regulator housing (10).
Disconnect tee assembly (6) from water temperature regulator housing (10).
Disconnect clip (7) from water temperature regulator housing (10).
Disconnect harness assembly (9).
Remove bolts (8) and the washers. Remove water temperature regulator housing (10).

Remove O-ring seal (11).
Remove tube (12) and O-ring seal (13).

Remove plugs (14) and the O-ring seals. Remove plug (18) and the O-ring seal.
Remove water temperature sensor (17).
Remove bolts (16) and the washers. Remove housing (15).

Remove seal (20).
Remove water temperature regulators (19).

Remove lip seals (21). Note the orientation of lip seals (21) for installation purposes. Installation Procedure
Install water temperature regulator housing (10) in the reverse order of removal.
Apply a light coat of Tooling (A) to lip seals (21). Use Tooling (B) in order to install lip seals (21).
Tighten water temperature sensor (17) to a torque of 20 3 N m (177 27 lb in).
Apply Tooling (A) to O-ring seals (13) and to the bore for tube assembly (4).
