Hot oil and hot components can cause personal injury. Do not allow hot oil or hot components to contact skin.
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Cat products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.

Position the final drive so that filler plug (1) is at the top. Check plug (2) will be horizontal to the ground and one quarter turn from the top.
Allow time for the oil to settle to the bottom of the gear reducer. Remove check plug (2).
The oil level should be at the bottom of the check plug opening. Remove filler plug (1). If necessary, add oil into the opening for filler plug (1) until the level at the bottom of the opening for check plug (2) is reached.
Clean filler plug (1) and install filler plug (1).
Clean check plug (2) and install check plug (2).
Repeat steps 1 to 5 in order to check the oil level in the other final drive.
