Install pin retaining bolt (16) and the washers that hold pin (15) in position.

Typical Example
Adjust the lateral clearance between the frame and the boom to 1.6 mm (0.06 inch) at the pin joint.
Adjust the lateral clearance by sliding the boom to one side until the boom makes contact with the frame. Measure the total clearance between the boom and the frame at the pin bore. The total sum of measurements (a) and (b) must not be more than 1.6 mm (.06 inch). If the total clearance is less than 1.6 mm (0.06 inch) the addition of shims will not be required. Tighten retaining bolt (16) that holds the pin assembly in position. If the total clearance is more than 1.6 mm (0.06 inch) the addition of shims will be required. Record the measurements. Use the measurements to determine the total thickness of shims for adjusting the lateral clearance between the frame and the boom.
If shims need to be installed for lateral clearance remove pin assembly (15) . Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Boom - Remove" in this manual for removing pin assembly (15) .Note: The bores for the pin assembly in the frame and the boom must be aligned with each other.
Install the required shims that were determined from the measurements in Step 19. Install the shims between the frame and the boom on the side opposite the cab.
Install pin assembly (15) . Refer to Steps 6, 7, 8, 9, 13, 14, 15, 16 and 17 for installing the pin assembly.
Lower the boom on Tool (C) . Adjust the height of Tool (C) so that the boom is level.

Position sight gauge (11) on the fuel tank. Install the bolts that hold sight gauge (11) to the fuel tank.

Position cover (10) on the machine. Install bolts (9) that secure cover (10) to the machine.

Position handhold (6) on the machine. Install bolts (5) that secure handhold (6) to the machine.
Position rear mirror (7) on the machine. Install bolts (8) that secure the rear view mirror to the machine.

Typical Example
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the machine. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide", for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids in Caterpillar machines.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
Remove the plugs from the ends of hose assemblies (12) and hose assemblies (14) .
Check the condition of the O-ring seals in the end of the hose assemblies. If the seals are damaged, use new parts for replacement.
Connect hose assemblies (12) and connect hose assemblies (14) to tube assemblies on the boom at original locations.
