(5) 1U-6707 Masking Tape
Using a sawing action, work around the window aperture cutting the adhesive until the glass is no longer adhered to the substrate.Retain the glass in position by applying adhesive tape strips (5), as shown in Illustration 2. Remove the adhesive tape and carefully lift the windscreen away from the aperture using the suction cups (6) and store away safely.
Remove the remaining adhesive from the substrate using a utility knife (2) or multi tool scraper.Note: The remaining adhesive should not be more than 1.0 mm (0.03 inch) to 2.0 mm (0.08 inch) and the height should be consistent around the complete aperture.
Apply the suitable primer and paint to the areas damaged during the glass removal process using Caterpillar approved paint.Reworking damaged areas will prevent the substrate from rusting which prevents the adhesive seal from failing and eliminates water leaks.Note: Refer manufacturers technical data sheet for the paint curing time.
After the complete curing of paint, use a lint free cloth to apply cleaning agent around the windscreen aperture to ensure that the substrate is free from oil, grease or any other contaminants.Windscreen Installation Procedure

Primer application around the windscreen
Using a felt applicator (7) apply suitable primer around the windscreen aperture. A wider application is required along the top of the aperture as this will be backfilled after the new windscreen is fitted.Note: For the list of approved adhesive system suppliers, refer Table 3. Refer to the suppliers product technical data sheet for application, coverage, flash off time etc.Note: Do not touch the primer once it is applied, to avoid the risk of contamination to the area where the primer will be bonded.
Lay the replacement screen on a flat surface with the ceramic frit facing up. Apply a cleaning agent to the ceramic frit around the full periphery of the glass using a lint free cloth, to ensure that the area to be bonded is free from oil, grease, silicone and any other contaminants.
Using a felt applicator (7) apply suitable activator around the windscreen ceramic frit area. Ensure that glass edge has a good coverage.Note: For the list of approved adhesive system suppliers, refer Table 3. Refer to the suppliers product technical data sheet for application, coverage, flash off time etc.Note: Do not touch the activator once it is applied, to avoid the risk of contamination to the area where the activator will be bonded.
