Certain 330D Hydraulic Excavators might experience a crack in the weld on the Pin Boss of the bucket. The location of the crack is shown in Illustration 1. the problem is more likely to happen in the rough application. The location of the crack is shown in illustration 1.

(1) Pin BossSolution
The welding process has been evaluated. Some of the weld passes have been redesigned for a better performance. A periodic check is recommended on the affected machines when 2000 hours have accumulated. Follow the recommended welding instructions. Use the sequence that is shown in Illustration 2.ReferenceSpecial Instruction, REHS1841, "General Welding Procedures".

Point (A) to point (B) is 20 mm (0.787 inch).Point (C) to point (D) is 20 mm (0.787 inch).

Clean the groove from point (B) to point (D) in order to make sure that any oil, paint, and dirt is removed.
Apply a fillet weld 5 mm (0.19685 inch) by 14 mm (0.55118 inch)from point (A) to point (B). Apply a fillet weld 5 mm (0.19685 inch) by 18 mm (0.70866 inch) from point (C) to point (D). This is based on the welding instruction. Do not allow any crack at either end of the weld.
Weld the first pass from point (B) to point (D). Apply the second pass after the first pass has cooled.
Start the weld from point (E) to point (B) for the first pass. Do the same type of weld from point (F) to point (D) .
Weld the other side by following the above Steps 1 to 4.
Finish the bevel weld between point (B) and point (D) .
Finish the welds for point (E) to point (B) and point (F) to point (D) .
Finish the weld from point (E) to point (G) and point (F) to point (H) .
Repeat steps 7 to 8 in order to weld the other side.
