Place a suitable container under the water separator. Clean the outside of the water separator.
Open valve (1).
Open drain (4). Allow the fluid to drain into the container.
Tighten drain (4) and valve (1) by hand pressure only.
Remove the wiring harness from sensor (5) on the bottom of glass bowl (3).
Remove glass bowl (3) from filter (2).
Use a Caterpillar strap wrench in order to remove filter (2). Discard the old seals and the canister in a safe place.
Clean glass bowl (3).
Install a new filter. Note: Do not fill the fuel filter before you install the fuel filter.
Install a new filter hand tight until the seal of the filter contacts the base. Note the position of the index marks on the filter in relation to a fixed point on the filter base. Note: There are rotation index marks on the filter that are spaced 90 degrees or 1/4 of a turn away from each other. When you tighten the filter, use the rotation index marks as a guide.
Tighten the filter according to the instructions that are printed on the filter. Use the index marks as a guide.
Install glass bowl (3) on the filter. Ensure that the sensor is in the correct position.
Install the wiring harness to the sensor (5).
Be sure to dispose of the fuel in a safe place.
Prime the fuel system.
Start the engine.
Check for leaks.
Close the engine compartment.
