Follow the recommended procedure for removal and installation of tires and or wheel assemblies.Ensure that the machine and tire and or wheel assembly are properly supported at all times.Improper procedures that are used to remove and install tires and or wheel assemblies can result in personal injury or death.
Servicing and changing tires and rims can be dangerous. This work must be done only by trained personnel with correct tools and procedures. If correct procedures are not followed while servicing tires and rims, the assemblies can burst with explosive force and cause serious physical injury or death. Follow carefully the specification information provided by your tire servicing person or dealer.
Note: The following procedure shows the removal of the rear tires and rims that are on the right side of the truck. This procedure is used for the rear tires and rims that are on the left side of the truck.Note: Refer to the Operation and Maintenance Manual for the correct tire handling recommendations and tire inflation procedures.Note: A tire handler or a lift truck with sideshift can be used for the removal of the tires and the rims when the cab platform and the truck body are installed. A tire handler and a lift truck are in the photos in this procedure. A rim weighs 1480 kg (3262.8 lb). A tire weighs 3500 kg (7716.2 lb).

Position the truck on a flat, level surface. Engage the parking brake. Place wheel chocks at the tires that will not be removed. Place Tooling (A) under the rear chassis. Refer to the Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Jacking Locations" for the correct locations.
Use Tooling (A) to lift the rear chassis until the weight is off the rear tires and rims. Refer to Tool Operating Manual, NEHS1328, "Lift Group (Stand - 60 Ton)" for more information on Tooling (A).

Remove nut (4) from top valve (5). Repeat this procedure for remaining valve (5).
Remove two bolts (1), two washers, bracket (3), and two spacers (2).

Use Tooling (B) to remove 70 bolts (6) and 70 washers. Leave two bolts (6) that are separated by 180 degrees. The two remaining bolts will retain the outside tire and rim until the tire handler is supporting the tire and the rim.

Use a tire handler to support the tire and the rim. The tire and the rim weigh approximately 5159 kg (11373.6 lb).
Use Tooling (B) to remove two remaining bolts (6) and two washers that are retaining the tire and the rim. Remove the outside tire and rim.
Attach a suitable lifting device to ring (7). Remove 72 nuts (8), 72 washers, and ring (7). Ring (7) weighs approximately 152 kg (335.1 lb).Note: If the truck is operated without the outside rear tire, remove ring (7). During the installation of the rear tires and rims, install ring (7). Torque all bolts (6) to secure the final drive to the wheel.

If necessary, use a suitable press to remove 72 studs (9).
