Remove bolt (3), washer (4), and idler gear (5).

Use Tooling (A) and a suitable press to remove the bearing from idler gear (5).
Remove shaft (6) from oil pump body assembly (7).
Use Tooling (B) to remove drive gear (8).

Before removing the drive shaft from the pump housing, be sure that no burrs exist on the drive shaft. If the drive shaft has burrs on it, the bores in the pump housing may be scratched.
Remove bolts (10). Separate oil pump body (9) from oil pump body assembly (7).
Remove shaft assembly (12) and shaft assembly (11) from oil pump body (9).

Personal injury can result from being struck by parts propelled by a released spring force.Make sure to wear all necessary protective equipment.Follow the recommended procedure and use all recommended tooling to release the spring force.
Remove oil plug (15), spring (14), and oil pressure relief plunger (13).Assembly Procedure
Keep all parts clean from contaminants.Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life.
Note: Cleanliness is an important factor. Before assembly, clean all parts thoroughly in cleaning fluid. Allow the parts to air dry. Wiping cloths or rags should not be used to dry parts. Lint may be deposited on the parts which may cause later trouble. Inspect all parts. If any parts are worn or damaged, use new parts for replacement.
Ensure that all the parts of the engine oil pump are thoroughly clean prior to assembly.Note: Lubricate all internal parts of the engine oil pump with clean engine oil.

Improper assembly of parts that are spring loaded can cause bodily injury.To prevent possible injury, follow the established assembly procedure and wear protective equipment.
Install oil pressure relief plunger (13) and spring (14) in the oil pump body assembly. Install oil plug (15).

Illustration 9 g00614683Note: Install bolts (10) before drive gear (8) is pressed onto shaft assembly (11). This bolt is positioned under drive gear (8).
Install bolts (10). Position drive gear (8) and shaft assembly (11) in oil pump body assembly (7). Use a suitable press to press drive gear (8) onto shaft assembly (11). Press until drive gear (8) is even with the end of shaft assembly (11). Install shaft assembly (12) in oil pump body (9). Put the pump bodies together. Tighten bolts (10).

Install oil pump shaft (6). Install the bearing in pump gear (5). Install the bearing so the distance between the hub bolt face of pump gear (5) and the bearing is 0.75 0.25 mm (0.030 0.010 inch). Install pump gear (5) on oil pump shaft (6). Install washer (4) and bolt (3). Tighten bolt (3) to a torque of 55 N m (41 lb ft).

Check the condition of the gasket that is used in oil pickup tube (2). If the gasket is damaged, replace the gasket. Install the gasket and oil pickup tube (2).
Check the condition of the O-ring seal that is used in outlet elbow (1). If the O-ring seal is damaged, replace the O-ring seal. Install the O-ring seal and outlet
