Do not perform any procedure in this Special Instruction until you have read the information and you understand the information.There have been some instances of the neutral earth cable assembly not being installed in certain C7.1 Generator Set.Safety Section
When servicing or repairing electric power generation equipment:Make sure the unit is off-line (disconnected from utility and/or other generators power service), and either locked out or tagged DO NOT OPERATE. Remove all fuses.
Required Parts
A 494-6855 Cable As is required.Removal Procedure
Turn the battery disconnect switch to the OFF position.
Support the generator terminal box lid. Remove the four bolts that secure the generator terminal box lid. Remove the generator terminal box lid.Installation Procedure

Position neutral earth cable assembly (1) to the generator set. Route neutral earth cable assembly away from sharp edges or other components. Refer to illustration 1.

Remove M10 flange head nut (2) on the star point of the alternator connection terminal block (3). Position the terminal connection of the neutral earth cable assembly (1) onto the terminal block stud.
Install M10 flange head nut (2) onto the terminal block stud. Tighten the nut hand tight.Note: Ensure that the neutral earth cable assembly is routed away from sharp edges or other components.

If necessary, remove nut (4) and washer (not shown) from earth terminal (5) in the circuit breaker box. Position the terminal connection of the neutral earth cable assembly (1) to earth terminal (5). Install washer (not shown) and nut (4) to earth terminal (5). Tighten the nut hand tight.Note: Ensure that the neutral earth cable assembly is routed away from sharp edges or other components.
Tighten nut (2) to a torque of 20 N m (177 lb in). Tighten nut (4) to a torque of 30 N m (266 lb in). Ensure that the route of the neutral earth cable assembly is correct when the nuts are tightened.
Position the generator terminal box lid to the generator set. Install the four bolts that secure the generator terminal box lid. Tighten the bolts to a torque of 12 N m (106 lb in).
Turn the battery disconnect switch to the ON position.
