Component Code 4050SUBJECT: Inspection of the Wheel Bearings
PROBLEM:
While performing Product Improvement Program PI30441, dealers have been asked to inspect the 199-0718 Bearings for damage. Some questions have been received about the type of damage that might be present on the bearings.
SOLUTION:
In most cases, the wheel bearing can be installed again on the machine. As shown in illustration 1, the bearings will be completely free of wear or damage.
Refer to illustration 2. The bearings may contain marks (1) that were caused by debris. The bearings can be installed again if the marks on the rollers cannot be felt when you scrape the rollers with your fingernail.
Refer to illustration 3. Replace any bearing that contains a single roller or multiple rollers that are chipped (2).
Refer to illustration 4. The illustration shows line (3) on the roller at the area of the rib in the inner race. Heavy loads can deform the roller bearing. If heavy loads have been applied to the bearing, the line can be felt by your fingernail. Replace the bearing if you can feel line (3) when you scrape the roller with your fingernail.
