Table 1
Diagnostic Codes
Code Description Conditions Notes
3509-3 Sensor supply voltage 1: High Battery voltage is normal.
Key switch is ON
Starter switch signal is not activated (P1/J1 Terminal 12)
3509-3: Sensor voltage is 5.625 V or higher.
3509-4: Sensor voltage is 4.375 V or lower
Engine derated.
Rail pressure limited to 80 MPa (12000 psi)
Warning Level 2.
Other Symptoms: Faulty starting, increased engine noise.
3509-4 Sensor supply voltage 1: Low
3510-3 Sensor supply voltage 2: High 3510-3: Sensor voltage is 5.625 V or higher.
3510-4: Sensor voltage is 4.375 V or lower.
Engine derated.
Rail pressure limited to 80 MPa (12000 psi)
EGR stops
Warning Level 2
Other Symptoms: Faulty starting, increased engine noise
3510-4 Sensor supply voltage 2: Low Note: A -3 code is detecting an open circuit or +B short circuit of the sensor or the wiring harness.Note: A -4 code is detecting a ground short circuit of the sensor or the wiring harness.Note: Diagnostic codes for a short circuit or and open circuitSensor Supply 2 supplies 5 v to the Ambient Air Pressure Sensor (Boost Pressure). Sensor Supply 1 supplies 5 v to the Common Rail Pressure Sensor, Crankshaft Position Sensor.

Turn the keyswitch to ON.
Measure the voltage between ECM terminals. Do not remove the ECM connectors. For code 3509, measure voltage between P1/J1 Terminal 40 (ground) / 60 (ground) and P2/J2 Terminal 68 (5V).For code 3510 measure between P1/J1 Terminal 40 (ground) / 60 (ground) and lP2/J2 Terminal 48 (5V).The voltage should be approximately 5 V. If it is approximately 5V, then go to Step 3.If it is not approximately 5 V, contact your dealer Technical Communicator (TC) before replacing the engine ECM.
Measure the voltage at the sensor connector between 5V and ground. If good, then replace the sensor. If not good, then the fault is in the wiring harness or connectors. Refer to Special Instruction, REHS7774 for jumper harnesses available for the engine connector. Refer to Special Instruction, REHS7297 for engine ECM connector repair options. If the problem remains, check the ECM.
