Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
Note: Cleanliness is an important factor. Before assembly, all parts should be thoroughly cleaned in cleaning fluid. Allow the parts to air dry. Wiping cloths or rags should not be used to dry parts. Lint may be deposited on the parts which may cause later trouble. Inspect all parts. If any parts are worn or damaged, use new parts for replacement. Dirt and other contaminants can damage the precision made components of the pump or of the motor. All disassembly and all assembly procedures must be performed on a clean work surface and in a clean hydraulic area. Keep cleaned parts covered and protected at all times.Note: Use straps and a suitable lifting device in order to hold the lift cylinder in place during the assembly procedure.Note: Put clean oil on all parts during assembly.

Install the cylinder on tooling (A), if necessary.
Install the bearing in the cylinder assembly and the rod assembly at the mounting pin locations. Verify that the bearings are centered in the bore.
Use tooling (C) in order to install the seal in both sides of the cylinder assembly and the rod assembly at the mounting pin locations.
Install ring (8), seal assembly (9) and seal (10) in head (6). Put 7M-7456 Compound in the groove for the wiper seal in head (6). Use tooling (C) in order to install wiper seal (11) in head (6). Install the seal with the lip toward the outside of the cylinder.
Install ring (13) and seal (12) on head (6) .
Put clean hydraulic oil on the lip of wiper seal (11), seal (10), seal assembly (9) and ring (8) .
Install head (6). Screw crown (14) onto cylinder assembly (1). Slide the head, the crown and the cylinder assembly onto rod assembly (7). Unscrew the crown from the cylinder assembly. Move the cylinder assembly away from the rod assembly and the crown.
Install piston (5) on rod assembly (7). Lubricate the threads on the end of the rod assembly with 4C-5593 Anti-Seize Compound. Install nut (2). Use tooling (B) in order to tighten the nut to a torque of 3400 340 N m
