Start By:a. remove steering control unit 1. Remove six bolts and washers (1) and cover (3). If necessary, remove lip seal (2). 2. Remove cotter pin (4). Remove nut and washer (5) from shaft (6). 3. Using tool (A), remove retaining ring (7) from shaft (6). 4. Remove lever (8) from shaft (6). 5. Remove lever assembly (9) from shaft (6). 6. Remove key (10) from shaft (6). Remove roller bearing cone (11). 7. If necessary, remove bearing race (12). Remove four bolts (13) and plate assembly (14) from body assembly (15). 8. If necessary, remove spring (16) from plate assembly (14). 9. Position the steering control unit as shown.10. Remove twelve bolts (17) and cover (18) from body assembly (15). 11. Remove bolt (20), two shims (23), and lever assembly (21).12. Remove two locknuts (22) and two bolts (19). 13. Remove two locknuts (28) and two bolts (25). Remove four links (24) from lever assembly (21).14. If necessary, remove nut (27) and bearing (26). 15. Remove bolt (29) and remove actuator (30). 16. Remove shaft assembly (6) from body assembly (15). 17. Remove roller bearing cone (31) from body assembly (15). 18. If necessary, remove roller bearing race (32) from body assembly (15).19. Remove two rod ends (33) and two nuts (34). 20. Remove five bolts (36) and pilot valve group (35) from body assembly (15).21. Remove two plugs (37) from pilot valve group (35). Remove the seal from plugs (37). 22. Remove nut (38) and valve group (39) from pilot valve group (35). 23. Remove three O-ring seals (40) from valve group (39).24. Remove spring (41), spool (42), plunger (43), and sleeve (45) from the valve body.25. Remove two O-ring seals (44) from sleeve (45). 26. Remove retainer (46) from spool (42). 27. Remove retainer (47), spacers (48) and spring (49) from spool (42).28. Repeat steps 22 thru 27 for the remaining valve group. The following steps are for the assembly of the steering control unit. For proper adjustment procedures for the steering control unit see Special Instructions Form No SEHS9413. 29. Install spring (49), spacers (48), retainer (47), and retainer (46) on spool (42). Use spacers (48) as required to obtain 19.6 0.5 N (4.41 .11 lb) preload on spring. 30. Install three O-ring seals (40) on valve group (39).31. Install plunger (43), spool (42), spring (41) and valve group (39) into the pilot valve body.32. Put two O-ring seals (44) on sleeve (45).33. Install sleeve (45) and nut (38) to the pilot valve body. Tighten nut (38) to a torque of 55 5 N m (40 5 lb ft). 34. Put the seals on plugs (37) and install the plugs to pilot valve group (35). Clean all gasketed surfaces with hydro chlorethane or equivalent. Surfaces being sealed must be free of oil and grease.35. Apply a continuous 3 mm diameter bead of 6V6640 Sealant on the mating surface between pilot valve group (35) and body assembly (15). Install five
