service technician can program the control speed. The control speed is the specific engine speed that is maintained by the Automatic Retarder Control (ARC) during automatic retarding. The control speed is set at the factory. However, an adjustment range exists for special applications that require a lower control speed. The control speed is adjustable in increments of 10 rpm.
For 3500 Engines, the factory set control speed is 1900 rpm. The adjustment range is 1850 to 1950 rpm.
For 3400 Engines, the factory set control speed is 2230 rpm. The adjustment range is 2160 to 2290 rpm.Procedure
Make sure that the transmission control lever is in the NEUTRAL position. Engage the parking brake.
Enter Mode 6 on the display. The readout now shows the control speed that is currently programmed into the ARC.
Use the service switches to adjust the programmed speed. Press the set switch in order to raise the control speed by 10 rpm. Press the clear switch in order to lower the control speed by 10 rpm. The new programmed speed will be displayed on the readout.
Return the display to Normal Mode (Mode 0).
