(25) Screed plate (26) Curved nose bar (27) Strikeoff plates (28) Strikeoff plate adjustment screwsEach extender and the main screed are equipped with a screed plate. Curved nose bar (26) is installed at the front of each screed plate. Two checks can be made on the screed plates which are the thickness and the flatness. A screed plate should be replaced if it is less than 3.175 mm (0.125 inch) thick.The screed is equipped with two strikeoff plates (27) on each extender. The strikeoff plates are adjustable and limit the amount of material that reaches the screed. These plates are connected to each of the four screed sections, and are adjustable.Each strikeoff plate (27) is equipped with two adjustment screws (28). These screws allow the operator to make fine adjustments to the position of the strikeoff plates in order to accommodate different mix consistencies.Note: The adjustment screws for the left extender strikeoff plate are shown in the above illustration. The right extender strikeoff plate is similar.The strikeoff plates are adjusted at the factory so that the bottom of the shield is approximately 19.0 mm (0.75 inch) higher than the bottom of the screed plate. The factory setting can be used to pave with mixes of average consistency. The strikeoff plates should be raised when the mix is sandy and lowered when the mix is coarse.

(31) Vibratory motorThe screed is equipped with four vibratory units. Vibratory units are located in each extender and in each side of the main screed.Each vibratory unit is composed of hydraulic motor (31) and a shaft with eccentric weights (not shown).The motor turns the shaft to create the vibration. The vibration aids in the initial compaction of the mat. The two vibratory motors on the left side of the screed are connected in series.
