Connecting the sensor test box
Connect the 276-7273 Sensor Test Box into the digital multimeter. Refer to Illustration 17.

Set the digital multimeter to DC Voltage and press the "Battery Test" button. The test box should produce about 9V DC. If the battery is lower significantly than 8 V DC, replace the battery. The 276-7273 Sensor Test Box uses a standard 9V battery.

Measuring frequency
Press the "Hz %" button so that the digital multimeter is now showing the frequency of the sensor signal. All the listed models utilize sensors that run at 250 Hz. Ensure that the sensor is operating at the proper frequency. The frequency will not change as the cylinder strokes.

Measuring percent duty cycle
Press the "Hz %" button so that the digital multimeter is now showing the percent duty cycle of the sensor signal. The duty cycle from the cylinder sensor will change as the cylinder stroke changes.
Move the cylinder to which the test box is connected through the entire range of motion for the cylinder. Verify that the duty cycle values shown on the digital multimeter exhibit smooth linear behavior throughout the cylinder movement without large jumps or dead zones. If the duty cycle is held at a static value for more than 5mm of cylinder travel, the sensor or magnetic pickup inside the cylinder is faulty.
