The 129-2915 Particle Detector Kit is the service kit for the 123-4526 Particle Sensor Gp and for the 144-8623 Particle Sensor Gp. The 165-5690 Particle Detector Kit is the service kit for the 165-5689 Particle Sensor Gp. Both service kits contain the following components: a grid, two O-ring seals for the end caps and an O-ring seal for the grid. The grid in the 165-5690 Particle Detector Kit has larger holes and closer spacing than the grid in the 129-2915 Particle Detector Kit. The two service kits are interchangeable.Nuisance alarms from the metal particle detector typically occur within the first 500 hours of operation after start-up. Nuisance alarms also occur within the first 500 hours of operation after an engine overhaul. If an alarm occurs, find the material that caused the alarm. Make sure that the material is not metal from a bearing, from a thrust washer, or from any internal component that could cause engine damage. The alarm is typically caused by particles of paint or by particles of metal during the normal wear-in period. If you use the 165-5690 Particle Detector Kit and you get nuisance alarms after 500 hours, Caterpillar recommends using the 129-2915 Particle Detector Kit.
