 TRACTOR
D6R XL With The 156-4542 PAT Modification (5LN2170-2195) TRACK-TYPE TRACTORProblem:
The 163-8001 diverter valve, part of the 156-4542 PAT arrangement, has been moved from the front of the machine to the rear of the machine. The diverter valve is now mounted on the top of the case and frame, beneath the fuel tank.Erratic control lever response has been reported on some machines with this new change. The valve mounting on the case is very critical to the operation of the valve spool. If the valve is not level, when mounted, this may cause the spool to bind in the bore of the valve.Solution:
1.) Remove the diverter valve.2.) Clean the top of the two bosses that the valve is mounted on.3.) Remove the paint from the mounting surface at the base of the valve.4.) Replace the diverter valve and mount with only one bolt. Tighten this bolt completely down, and check for a gap between the valve and the boss of the remaining bolthole.5.) If a gap exists, shim the valve to eliminate the gap.6.) If there is no gap, remove the bolt. Place the bolt in the remaining bolthole and repeat steps 4 and 5.7.) When both mounting surfaces are flush with both bosses, install the remaining bolt, tighten the diverter valve to the specified torque, and test the controls.COPYRIGHT 1999 CATERPILLAR ALL RIGHTS RESERVED
