The problem that is identified below does not have a known permanent solution. Until a permanent solution is known, use the solution that is identified below.Problem
Braking and steering overheating events may occur due to hard and moderate braking on downgrades on the machines listed above.Solution
Caterpillar is aware of this problem, and is recommending the following solutions.
Set the cooling system temperature for brake system and steering system to 78°C (140°F) from 85°C (153°F).
Check for leakages in cooling tubes by measuring differential pressure between the tubes.
Perform machine performance tests. Refer to following publications for the tests:
Testing and Adjusting, KENR8570, "793F and 793F CMD Off-Highway Truck Hydraulic System"
Testing and Adjusting, KENR8574, "793F and 793F XQ Off-Highway Truck Hydraulic Fan and Steering System"
Testing and Adjusting, KENR8738, "793F and 793F CMD Off-Highway Truck Braking System"
If the steering alarm temperature is 99° C (210° F), derate will not occur. If the steering alarm temperature is above 99° C (210° F) for more than one second, a level 2 derate will allow 99 km/h, but log a code. Sites can reduce this speed back to the original 10 km/h or any other speed needed to control steering heat.
