Use Tooling (A) to check the connecting rod bearing clearances. Follow Step 5 and Step 6 for the correct installation procedures and tightening procedures for the connecting rod bearing caps when the clearance check is performed. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Bearing Clearance - Check". Bearing clearance (new bearings) ... 0.071 to 0.168 mm (0.0028 to 0.0066 inch)Maximum permissible bearing clearance (used bearings) ... 0.25 mm (0.010 inch)
Lubricate the threads of the connecting rod bolts and the seating faces of connecting rod bearing cap (2) with Tooling (B). Install connecting rod bearing cap (2) and nuts (3). Ensure that the number on the side of the connecting rod bearing cap is on the same side as the number on the connecting rod.
Tighten nuts (3), as follows:
Tighten the nuts to a torque of 82 8 N m (60 6 lb ft).
Put a mark on each nut and on each connecting rod bearing cap.
Tighten each nut for an additional 120 5 degrees.
Repeat Steps 1 through 6 in order to install the remainder of the connecting rods. End By:
