Illustration 1 g06125683While attempting to set up the antitheft security keypad, an "unknown error" message can occur. The problem shows itself when entering the "Security Management" screen for the "Security System" (keypad) ECM. You may get the warning as "An unknown error occurred during the last operation". This is more likely to happen for fully featured machines with lots of ECMS on the CAN system (444 HRC with product link are the worst as they have 7 ECMs followed by 432, 420, and 430 HRC with 6 ECMs. Machines with less that 4 ECMs are not likely to see this problem).This error is due to Caterpillar Comm Adapter 3 software (Version 3.5).Solution
If the error message occurs, uninstall the 3.5 software and install 3.7 software. The 3.7 software is located in www.dealer.cat.com. A direct link to this update is: https://dealer.cat.com/en/ps/service/software/cat-et/comm-adapter-3-toolkit.html. It is also recommended to update to the latest ET software at the same time.
