the auger distributes the material from the center of the screed to the outer edges of the screed, the material exerts force on the screed. The force on the screed changes as the level of material in the auger chamber changes. Variations in the speed of the auger affect the quality of the mat. A constant auger speed of 20 rpm to 40 rpm will reduce mat defects.The height of the auger will also affect the quality of the mat. The initial setting of the lower edge of the auger flight should be 50.8 mm (2 inch) to 76.2 mm (3 inch) inches above the base plate of the screed. You may need to adjust the height of the auger according to the mix design.
