A. Steer Pump
The steer pump is a fixed-displacement gear-type pump which is mounted to the vibratory pump. The steer pump is driven by a splined shaft which goes through the vibratory pump to the triple-pump drive.Pumps are located in the engine compartment on the left side of the machine.B. Relief Valve
Hydraulic oil for the steering system passes through the relief valve. If hydraulic pressure exceeds the relief valve setting, the relief valve passes oil back to the tank. This protects steering system components from excessive pressure.C. HMU (Hand Metering Unit)
Hydraulic oil from the steer pump is routed to the HMU. The operator steers the machine by turning a steering wheel, which is mechanically connected to the HMU. The HMU directs hydraulic oil to the steer cylinder, causing the machine to turn.D. Steer Cylinder
The steer cylinder provides the force needed to steer the machine. The steer cylinder is connected to the front frame and the rear frame across the steer pivot. As the cylinder extends and retracts, the machine scissors left or right at the steer pivot, turning the machine.Operation
