Be sure that the valve seat bores in the cylinder head are clean.
Cool the valve seat insert (11) to a temperature of −60 °C (−76 °F). Put clean oil on the outside diameter and on the radius at the bottom of the insert.
Use Tool (E) and a press to install the valve seat (11). Install the valve seat to the bottom of the bore in the cylinder head.Note: Do not grind the valves. If necessary, replace the valves.

Install each valve in the original position. Use a straight edge and a thickness gauge to determine the amount of material that will be removed from the valve seat. Measure the projection of the valve head relative to the bottom deck of the cylinder head. Dimension (W) measures this distance, and this dimension must be + 0.5 mm (0.02 inch) to −2.0 mm (0.079 inch).Note: Install the intake valves in line with the air inlet opening in the cylinder head.Note: The intake and exhaust valve inserts are different part numbers. Be sure that these inserts are installed in the correct position.
Use an orbital valve seat grinder such as a Chris Marine MSB. Repeat Step 21 frequently to be sure that the correct dimension is obtained. This step relates only to the cylinder heads with the older style. The newer heads use a prefinished insert, so no grinding is allowed.Chris Marine AB

Install the valves. Install Tool (F) over the valves.Note: Coat the valve stems with 8T-2998 Lubricant prior to the installation in the cylinder head.

Install the plate (1) and the nut. The plate (1) can be fabricated from 1/4 inch flat stock.

Turn the cylinder head on Tool (A) so that the valve stems face upward.
Install four guides (6) over the valve guide. Place these guides against the cylinder head.

Install four inner springs (5) and four outer springs (4).

Put four rotocoil assemblies (3) on top of the springs.

Put the valve spring compressor (3) in position on the valve spring. This component is a part of Tool (F). Install the nut that holds the compressor.Note: Loosen the nut that holds the plate (1) so the bolt can move.

Run the pump assembly until the springs are compressed enough to install the locks (2). This pump is a part of Tool (F). Use a magnet bar to install the locks.
Do not remove or install the spring locks with your fingers. If the spring should move, personal injury may result.
Remove Tool (F). Tap the end of each valve stem with a soft faced hammer.
