Install O-ring (21) to wedge (20). Install the wedge to head (16). Apply 1U-6396 O-Ring Assembly Compound to the O-ring seal. The chamfered edges on the wedge should be facing upward.

Install seal (17), seal (18), and two O-ring seals (19). Apply 1U-6396 O-Ring Assembly Compound to the O-ring seal.

This graphic shows the position of the etched dot that is used for orientation of the cylinder.
Note: Before installation, determine the correct position of the cylinder. The lower portion of the cylinder is equipped with two notches. The notches determine the position of the cylinder in the work tool. You should observe the location of the oil inlet. A dot is etched above one of the notches in order to differentiate between the two sides. For an inlet port on the left side of the work tool, install the notch without the dot onto the wedge. For an inlet port on the right side of the work tool, install the notch with the dot onto the wedge.

The notch in the wedge should be at a horizontal plane during installation of the cylinder.
Install Tool (C), and a hoist to cylinder (13). Coat the surfaces of the cylinder that contact the head with 4C-5598 High Temperature Anti-Seize. Lift the cylinder onto head (16). The weight of the cylinder is 190 kg (419 lb). Ensure that the wedge is the correct position during installation of the cylinder. The position of the wedge can be viewed from the access hole in the side of the head. The notch in the wedge should be on a horizontal plane, as shown. Use a screwdriver to straighten the wedge, if necessary.

Install two O-ring seals (15) to cylinder (13). Apply 1U-6396 O-Ring Assembly Compound to the O-ring seal.
Install dowel (14).

Attach Tool (C), and a hoist to piston (12). Lubricate the piston with clean hydraulic oil. Lift piston (12) onto cylinder (13). The weight of the piston is 103 kg (227 lb).

Install seal (12) and two seals (13) into the bore of seal carrier (11). Apply 1U-6396 O-Ring Assembly Compound to the O-ring seal.
Install backup ring (10) and O-ring seal (11). Apply 1U-6396 O-Ring Assembly Compound to the O-ring seal.

Install two O-ring seals (7). Apply 1U-6396 O-Ring Assembly Compound to the O-ring seal.
Install backup ring (6) and O-ring seal (5). Apply 1U-6396 O-Ring Assembly Compound to the O-ring seal.
Install outer backup ring (3) and O-ring seal (4). Apply 1U-6396 O-Ring Assembly Compound to the O-ring seal.
Install locating dowel (2).

Install Tool (C), and a hoist to seal carrier (1). Lift the seal carrier into position on the cylinder. The weight of the seal carrier is 60 kg (132 lb). End By:
