Keep all parts clean from contaminants.Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life.
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
Do not disconnect the air lines until the air pressure in the system is at zero. If hose is disconnected under pressure it can cause personal injury.
Loosen the purge valves, and release the air pressure in the air tank.

Disconnect tube assembly (1) and tube assembly (2) from the air compressor.
Disconnect tube assembly (3) from the air compressor.

Remove tube assembly (4) from the air compressor.
Remove nuts (5) that hold the air compressor to the accessory drive.
Remove air compressor (6) from the engine.

Remove seal (7) from the air compressor.
Install Tooling (A) to the mounting flange of the air compressor in order to remove the retaining nut for the drive gear.
Remove the air compressor drive gear from the air compressor.Installation Procedure

Install the air compressor drive gear onto the shaft of the air compressor.
Install Tooling (A) to the mounting flange of the air compressor in order to install the retaining nut for the drive gear.

Install new seal (7) on the air compressor.

Install air compressor (6) on the engine.
Install nuts (5) in order to hold the air compressor on the engine.
Connect tube assembly (4) to the air compressor.

Connect tube assembly (1) to the air compressor.
Connect tube assembly (2) to the air compressor.
To prevent water from collecting and freezing in the air compressor lines, ensure that the air compressor lines are sloping downward and away from the air compressor.
Connect tube assembly (3) to the air compressor.
