Water pumps may leak as a result of damaged face seals. Relative movement between the shaft and the housing may allow the drive shaft to contact the face seal in the water pump. If contact occurs, the face seal will be damaged, and very early hour failures can result.
Water Pump Handling Procedures
* Do NOT move the water pump shaft (2) in respect to the water pump housing (3).* The water pump should NEVER be set down with the shaft on the ground.* Never handle the water pump by the shaft.* Never use a hammer, mount, or other device on the water pump or on the shaft which might cause movement between the shaft and the housing. The 124-5245 Face Seal Group is a service replacement for the 120-7550 Face Seal Group. The 124-5245 Face Seal Group is affected by all of the above.
