Assembly Procedure

Check all components for wear and damage. Clean all components and oil all components before any components are installed.
Install new seal (4) into the control valve.
Install spool (5) into the control valve. The spool should only be installed in one direction. Refer to the arrow in Illustration 1. The spool should be inserted far enough into the control valve so that plug (6) can be installed.
Install plug (6). Tighten plug (6) to the proper torque. Refer to Table 1.

Check the preload on spring (4). If adjustment is needed, refer to the Specifications section of the Service Manual, "Control Valve -Test and Adjust".
Install shims (2) into spring housing (1). The thickest shim should always be placed against spring (3). Coat shims with grease.
Before installing the spring, the spring housing needs to be half full of grease.
Coat the spring with grease. Install spring (3) into spring housing (1).
Install spring (3) and spring housing (1) into the control valve.
Tighten spring housing (1) to the proper torque. Refer to Table 2.

Lubricate the O-rings and install new O-rings (13) on the following components: ring (10), slide ring (11) and bushing (12).

Typical Example
Install a 12 mm (0.5 inch) threaded rod into the threaded hole of puller plate (9). Do not extend the threaded rod through puller plate (9).
Install the following components onto puller plate (9) and the threaded rod: ring (10), oil distributor (13), slide ring (11) and bushing (12).

Use flat washers in order to compress the components together for reassembly.

Place the assembled components into control valve (7). A blank punch and a plastic hammer may need to be used in order to tap assembled components into control valve (7).
Remove the washers and the threaded rod from the assembled components. End By:
Install the control valve onto the cylinder. Refer to the Service Manual, "Control Valve - Install".
