(1) Pressure tap for pilot oilNote: If the maximum clutch pressure test and the test for the primary clutch pressures use the FT-1775 Transmission Test Cover , perform Step 1 through Step 6. Then go on to the next test. Pilot pressure can be checked while clutch pressures are checked.
Disconnect the wiring harness from both the downshift and upshift solenoids.
Remove the solenoid guard and the large cover from the transmission case.
Remove the plug from pressure tap (1) .
Install a 3B-6552 Elbow in pressure tap (1) . Connect a 3B-7282 Pipe Nipple with a 6V-4142 Unvalved Nipple to the elbow.
Place the large cover on top of the transmission case. In order to prevent the spray of oil, use a piece of plastic or paper with the cover. This is done in order to keep dirt out. A FT-1775 Transmission Test Cover may be used in place of the large cover.
Connect a 8T-0855 Pressure Gauge to the nipple assembly.
Start the engine and run the engine at LOW IDLE rpm with the engine in the NEUTRAL position. Keep the parking brakes activated.
The pressure on the gauge must be 1725 70 kPa (250 10 psi) .
When the test is complete, stop the engine.Results

( 1 ) Before an adjustment is made, make sure that the valve spring is not weak or broken.

If the pressure on the gauge is too low, then the setting of priority reduction valve (2) is too low. Add spacers (3) . Refer to Table 2 .
If the pressure on the gauge is too high, then the setting of priority reduction valve (2) is too high. Remove spacers (3) . Refer to Table 2 .
If the pressure on the gauge is correct, but the pressures at ALL clutches are 0 kPa (0 psi), then neutralizer valve (4) is malfunctioning. Disassemble the selector valve. Check for foreign material. Also check for worn parts or damaged parts. Make sure that the orifice valve is free of debris. Also, make sure that the ball check valve of the neutralizer valve is free of debris.
