Remove the governor drive. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Governor Drive - Remove".
Keep all parts clean from contaminants.Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life.
Remove the camshaft drive gear cover from the left side of the rear housing.
Remove the rear camshaft inspection cover from each side of the engine. Remove the camshaft timing pin from the storage location. Use the manual barring group in order to rotate the engine until the timing pins can be installed in the crankshaft and both camshafts.

Note: The later engine has an adapter for the governor drive that is mounted on the camshaft drive gear.
Lock the manual barring group in order to prevent the engine from rotating when bolt (4) is loosened.
Remove the timing pins from the crankshaft and the camshafts.
Use Tooling (A) in order to loosen bolt (4).
Remove bolt (4) and washer (3).
Remove bolts (2) and remove plate (5).
Place washer (3) between the camshaft and plate (5) and install bolt (4).
Install bolts (2) finger tight. Note: Ensure that bolt (4) is installed in order to hold camshaft drive gear (1) when the camshaft drive gear is pulled off the taper of the camshaft.
Tighten bolts (2) evenly in order to pull camshaft drive gear (1) off the taper of the camshaft.
Attach a suitable lifting device to camshaft drive gear (1). The weight of camshaft drive gear (1) is approximately 35 kg (77 lb). Remove bolts (2), bolt (4), plate (5), and washer (3). Remove camshaft drive gear (1) from the rear housing.
