Apply a thin coat of 5P-0960 Molybdenum Grease on the bearings and on the seals in the boom.

Fasten a suitable lifting device to boom (4). Place boom (4) in position in the upper frame. Make sure that the pin bores in the upper frame and in boom (4) are aligned.

Install Tooling (B) in the end of pin assembly (10). Apply a thin coat of 5P-0960 Molybdenum Grease to pin assembly (10). Use two people to temporarily install pin assembly (10). The weight of the pin assembly is 29 kg (65 lb). Use a soft faced hammer to drive pin assembly (10) into position. Do not remove the lifting device from the boom at this time.

Slide the boom to one side until the boom makes contact with the upper frame. Measure the total clearance between the boom and the upper frame. The total clearance of measurement (a) plus measurement (b) must not be more than 1.0 mm (.04 inch). If the total clearance is less than 1.0 mm (.04 inch), the addition of shims between the boom and the upper frame will not be required. If the total clearance is more than 1.0 mm (.04 inch), the addition of shims will be required.

Remove pin assembly (10), if shims are required. Install the shims that are required between the boom foot and the upper frame. Install the shims on the same side as bolt (9). Install pin assembly (10) .
Install the washer and bolt (9). Tighten bolt (9) to a torque of 325 40 N m (240 30 lb ft). Remove the lifting device from the boom.
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.

Install new O-ring seals in the ends of hose assemblies (5). Connect hose assemblies (5) .
Connect wiring harness (6) to the boom lights.
