Clean the grapple before performing any repairs.
Inspect the grapple. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Daily Inspection" for additional information.
Perform all other repairs before replacing the tips.

Use ventilation, exhaust at the arc, or both, to keep fumes and gases from your breathing area. Wear eye, ear and body protection before working.Protect yourself and others; read and understand this warning. Fumes and gases can be dangerous to your health. Ultraviolet rays from the weld arc can injure eyes and burn skin. Electric shock can cause death.Read and understand the manufacturer's instructions and your employer's safety practices. Do not touch live electrical parts.
Before carrying out arc welding on the machine or on any equipment attached to the machine, disconnect all power and ground leads from the batteries in order to avoid possible damage to electronic components.
Personal injury can result from flame cutting or welding on painted areas.The effect of gasses from burned paint is a hazard to the person doing the cutting or welding.Do not flame cut or weld on painted areas.

Note: The hard surfacing will improve the abrasion resistance of tip (1). The hard surfacing is not used to build the tip back up to the original size.
Inspect tip (1) for wear. If the tip is blunt or damaged, the tip should be replaced. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Replacing the Tip" for additional information.
Grind the surface of the tip that will be welded. The surface should be clean and free of paint and rust.
Preheat the surfaces of tip (1) to 150 °C (302 °F) to 200 °C (392 °F).
These items are recommended for the hard surfacing of the material:
Lincoln Wearshield ME welding rod
ESAB Wear Arc-5 welding rod
Welding material according to DIN8555 MF6-55GP
Welding material with the chemical composition that is mentioned in Table 2

Recommended pattern for weldingThe maximum height of the weld is 3 mm (0.12 inch).
Apply single passes next to each other. Do not stack the welds. Do not extend the welds onto shell (2). Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Welding on Machines and Engines with Electronic Controls" for additional information.
Remove all the debris from the welds. Allow the welds to cool slowly to ambient temperature. Do not use forced air.
Repeat the above steps for all tips.
Check the end stops. If necessary, repair the end stops.Note: The end stops must be closed without any play between the contact surfaces of the end stops.Painting the Tip and Shell
Remove all the debris from the welded area.
Paint the welded area with primer.
Allow the primer to dry completely.
Paint the welded area with a final coat of paint.Returning to Operation
