Procedure To Install Seal
1. The temperature must be 15.5°C (60°F) or warmer.2. Remove the old seal and all foreign material from the seal groove. Clean the seal groove thoroughly with a wire brush.3. Wash the seal groove with a solvent that leaves no oily residue.4. Apply a thin, even bead of 5H2471 Rubber Adhesive to the seal groove for a length of approximately 1 m (3 ft). To permit bonding of the seal ends together, leave approximately 0.3 m (1 ft) of seal loose as the seal is pushed into the groove. The rubber adhesive must be applied evenly. An excessive amount is just as harmful as no adhesive at all.5. Push the seal into the seal groove with a blunt tool. DO NOT stretch the seal as this will cause the failure of the seal. Leave approximately 0.6 m (2 ft) of the groove free of rubber adhesive until the seal is cut to the proper length.6. After the correct length of seal is determined, apply a cyanoacrylate cement such as "Locktite Black Max" cement to the seal ends and bond the ends together. See the instructions that are given with the cement. When the seal ends are secure, apply rubber adhesive to the remaining 0.6 m (2 ft) of the seal groove and put the seal in the groove. Allow the rubber adhesive to cure at least 24 hours. To ensure that the seal has not adhered to the top of the bearing, run a dull putty knife around the seal.
