Fuel leaked or spilled onto hot surfaces or electrical components can cause a fire. To help prevent possible injury, turn the start switch off, depress the emergency stop button, and turn the battery disconnect switch to the OFF position when changing fuel filters or water separator elements. Clean up fuel spills immediately.
The fuel system should be primed after the following:
A unit injector is changed.
A fuel filter has been changed.
The fuel system is dry.
Connect a laptop computer that is equipped with Electronic Technician (ET) to the service tool connector on the display panel.
Initiate ET and select an electronic control module (ECM).
Select "Diagnotic Test" from the "Diagnostic" menu.
Select "Override Parameters".
Double click the "Fuel Pump Relay Command Override" and then switch the function to "On".
Confirm that the fuel system is priming by the following:
The fuel pump is running.
The fuel pressure gauges on the end of the duplex fuel filter housing indicate fuel pressure when the air is bled from the fuel system.
Slowly open the air purge valves that are located at the top of the fuel filter housing one at a time to purge air.
The priming will continue until the following:
The "Override Parameter" has been turned off.
The service tool connector has been disconnected.
An initiate signal for the crank cycle is sent to the ECM.
Once the priming has been discontinued, the fuel "Fuel Pump Relay Command Override" will display "Off".
