Keep all parts clean from contaminants.Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life.
Inspect the cylinder liner. Refer to Reuse and Salvage Guidelines, "Specifications and Cleaning Procedures for Cylinder Liners in 3600 and C-280 Engines".

Measure the groove depth of the gasket at four places. Refer to Specifications, "Cylinder Liner" for the correct groove depth.

Measure the thickness of the cylinder liner flange at four places. Refer to Specifications, "Cylinder Liner" for the correct thickness of the liner flange.

Use a dial bore gauge to measure the inside diameter of the cylinder liner at four locations. The cylinder liner should be measured at two points that are separated by 90 degrees at each location. Refer to Specifications, "Cylinder Liner" for the correct bore diameter.
Remove the rust and/or deposits from the outside surface of the cylinder liner. Use glass beads or a wire brush.
Thoroughly clean the cylinder liner bore in the cylinder block. Apply Tooling (E) or liquid soap to the sealing surfaces.

Install O-ring seal (2) and O-ring seals (3) on cylinder liner (1).
Apply Tooling (E) or liquid soap to the O-ring seals.
Attach Tooling (C) and a suitable lifting device to cylinder liner (1). The weight of cylinder liner (1) is approximately 100 kg (220 lb).
Carefully lower cylinder liner (1) into the cylinder block. Lower cylinder liner (1) until the lower O-ring seals of cylinder liner (1) enter the seal bore in the cylinder block.
Remove Tooling (C). Use Tooling (D) to seat the cylinder liner in the cylinder block. End By:
Install the piston and connecting rod.
