Personal injury or death can result from sudden machine movement.Sudden movement of the machine can cause injury to persons on or near the machine.Prevent possible injury by performing the procedure that follows before working on the machine.Move the machine to a smooth horizontal location. Move away from working machines and personnel and lower the implement to the ground.Permit only one operator on the machine. Keep all other personnel away from machine or in view of the operator.Engage the parking brake. Stop the engine.Move the hydraulic control levers to all positions to release the pressure in the hydraulic system.

To ensure that the current cooling system is functioning at the optimum level, check the following items prior to replacing the hood:
Check the coolant and engine oil levels. Check the radiator and air filter for cleanliness.

Check foam around the cooling cores to ensure proper air flow across the coils.
Install the most current software, 505-8132 Machine Software Gp, on the machine. Refer to M0077247 for more details.
Check the temperature at the top and bottom of the radiator tank. If there is more than a 30 degree difference in the temperature, check the engine regulator thermostat.

Dual plunger type is upper item and single plunger type is lower item
If the regulator is not a dual plunger type, replace with 383-0422 Regulator. Refer to M0078378 for instructions.
If operating at an altitude of 1524 m (5000 ft) or greater, adjust the torque limiter. Refer to M0078079 for instructions.If the machine is still overheating during normal operation, the back hood can be replaced with 520-1036 Hood As. The following section instructs how to replace the back hood.Installation Procedure

Remove back hood from the machine by unbolting hinge bracket from the hood and removing cotter pin and washer from the back hood latch bar.The hardware will be used on the new hood assembly. Do not lose the hardware.

Install Foam (2), Foam (3), Foam (4), and Foam (5) to the back of Hood As (1).

Attach 436-9023 Film (6) to the new hood assembly.

Remove the latch cover, latch, and grommet from the old hood.

Install the grommet into the new hood assembly. Install the latch onto the new hood assembly.
Reattach the hood assembly to the machine reusing the retained hardware and torque to 55 +/- 10 Nm (41 +/- 7 ft-lbs). Refer to Illustration 3.
Attach the slide arm with the washer and cotter pin to the hood assembly. Refer to Illustration 3.
