Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Cat® products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
Keep all parts clean from contaminants.Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life.
Inspect the ball, the shims, the cap, and the adapter. Replace the components that are worn or damaged.

Install shims (18) and ball (17) onto adapter (14).

Install cap (16) onto adapter (14). Install bolts (5).
Use Tooling (F) to measure the end play of ball (17). Add or remove shims to obtain an end play measurement of 0.6 0.2 mm (0.024 0.008 inch).Note: Ensure that ball (17) moves freely through all positions in the socket.

Use Tooling (E) to install adapter (14), cap (16), and ball (17). Install bolts (15). Tighten bolts (15) in an alternating sequence. Tighten bolts (15) by one additional time. Tighten bolts (15) to a final torque of 900 100 N m (664 74 lb ft). Remove Tooling (E).

Remove Tooling (C) from circle (12) and front frame (11).

Use a suitable lifting device to position the front of drawbar (10) onto front frame (12). The weight of the front of drawbar (10) is approximately 454 kg (1000 lb).

Use Tooling (F) to align the bolt holes that are in adapter (14) and the bolt holes that are in the front frame.
Install four of bolts (13). Tighten bolts (13) to a torque of 1800 200 N m (1328 148 lb ft). Remove Tooling (F). Install the remaining bolts (13). Tighten bolts (13) to a torque of 1800 200 N m (1328 148 lb ft).

Install blocks (9), plate (8), and bolts (7). Repeat this step for the opposite side.
Connect hose assembly (6).

Connect fitting (4). Repeat this step for the opposite side.
Connect harness assemblies (3) and remove the connecting hardware. Connect grease hose assembly (2).

Remove Tooling (B) from the front tires.
