Reference: Engine News, October 2000, "Engine Vision Troubleshooting Procedures"Description of Change: Parts are now available which provide improved communication between a marine engine Electronic Control Module (ECM) and the marine Engine Vision display. The new 193-0258 Engine Vision Interface Module (EVIM) replaces the former 130-6197 Engine Vision Interface Module (EVIM). Use of the new Engine Vision Interface Module (EVIM) requires that the Engine Vision display be updated with Engine Vision Version 4.0 software. The software is available as Caterpillar Inc. Engine Vision Software Upgrade, LERM8401-02. The new EVIM and Engine Vision software provide improvements for the following issues;
Display of erroneous Engine Totals data on the Totals screen
Engine Vision Gauges Flicker to "ERROR"
Engine Vision Histograms display slowly, or not at allRefer to the accompanying reference article for details on troubleshooting specific Engine Vision problems.New engine software FLASH files with a SEP 00 release date are now available for the 3176C, 3196 and 3406E marine engines. The new FLASH files contain enhancements which provide improved data transfer between the engine ECM and the Caterpillar marine Engine Monitoring System (EMS). The new FLASH files contain improvements which eliminate EMS gauge sweeping. The appropriate FLASH file can be identified and downloaded from Caterpillar SISWEB. A cross reference list of 3176C, 3196 and 3406E marine engine FLASH file part numbers appears below.Adaptable To: The Engine Vision Software Update Version 4.0 is a direct replacement for previous versions. The 193-0258 Engine Vision Interface Module (EVIM) is a direct replacement for the previous 130-6197 Engine Vision Interface Module (EVIM). The appropriate 3176C, 3196 and 3406E FLASH file should also be used, if updating the Engine Vision software and EVIM on one of these marine engine models.
