Electronic Control System for the Auger Conveyors

(1) Machine electronic control module (Machine ECM)Machine ECM (1) is located in the junction box in the center console.The machine ECM processes the data from all of the switches and controls. The machine ECM controls the input current to the solenoids for the EDC valves.

Left Screed Control Box (5) Dial (left mix height)Note: There is a left and right dial to control the mix height in the left and right auger chambers. Only the dial for the left mix height is shown. The adjustment for the right mix height is identical to the adjustment for left mix height.To control the speed of the asphalt mix delivery, the operator can set speed ratio control (9) and speed ration control (10) for the drag conveyors and set dial (5) (left mix height) for the mix height in the auger chambers. Once the speed of the drag conveyors is set, the auger conveyors will be controlled automatically in order to maintain the mix height in the left and right auger chambers. This speed ratio between the drag and auger conveyors will be maintained even when the paving speed and paving widths are changed.The control system also may be set to manual by using toggle switch (2) and toggle switch (3). The auger conveyors will operate at full speed when the conveyors are in the manual mode.Planetary Drives

(6) Left planetary drive (7) Right planetary driveThe left and right auger motors turn left planetary drive (6) and right planetary drive (7). The planetary drives will increase torque and decrease the rpm from the auger conveyor motors to the drag conveyor chain drive.Electrical Displacement Control (EDC)

(8) EDC valveThere is one EDC valve for each piston pump for the auger conveyors. The valve is a proportional control valve. The output flow from the valve is directly proportional to the input current that is sent from the machine ECM to the solenoids. The EDC valve gives the ability to control the output flow from the piston pumps at fine increments. As a result, the speed of the auger motor can be finely controlled.
